ON THE COLOR SCALE BETWEEN RED AND YELLOW ORANGE IS PLACED.

BLACKIE

Spring 2012 color trends

Everyone approaches color differently. While our wardrobes are usually dominated by one or two of them, often when we shop we’re partial to investing in some seasonal colors. Read our spring 2012 colors guide to find out which colors are dominating the minds of designers when they set about creating 2012′s fashions.

I am very excited to meet the New Year. I’m hoping that the Year of the Dragon will provide me more opportunities to express my passion for fashion. I will leave 2011 behind with a promise of hope, faith and strength. I will also explore the fashion world with resilience and diligence so that I will become a catalyst of change, specifically in the field of sustainable fashion.

A graffiti artist who painted the walls of Facebook's first headquarters seven years ago is set for a bumper payday of $200million after he agreed to take Facebook stock instead of cash for his work.

David Choe, 35, was asked to paint the offices in Palo Alto, California, in 2005, and was offered the choice by then-president Sean Parker of being paid a few thousand cash or the equivalent in shares.  Now, after a blockbuster $5billion Facebook stock exchange flotation moved a step closer last night, he is one of at least 1,000 company employees finally on their way to becoming millionaires.            viadailymail.co.uk

Fitness Friday #1

Fitness Friday!

1st Tip: Workout In The Morning!

Working out in the morning really makes all the difference. Firstly, if you workout in the afternoon, there is more of a chance of you skipping your workout due to conflicts.  Getting your workout in right when you wake up guarantees that you work out. Also, you can get it over with and won't have to worry about it later. Another cool thing, is that you burn more fat in the morning.  It takes about 3 minutes to start burning fat right when you wake up, where it takes about 12 minutes in the afternoon.  This happens beacuse your body has to burn through all the sugar you've eaten beforehand, and in the morning, your body hasn't had any sugar yet.  In conclusion, if you workout in the morning, EVERYONE WINS!

2nd Tip: Do 8 Minute Abs Before You Go To Sleep!

Okay this may sound weird, but I've been doing this for a while, and I gotta say, I have abs of steel.  It's only 8  minutes, and it really gives your abs a good workout.  If you can't do this everyday, I would suggest doing it at least every other day to get good results.

3rd Tip: Keep Calm!

Being fit and healthy is somewhat of a challenge...For me, if I mess up and eat a big, fat juicy burger, I don't freak! It's oaky to mess up! When you over eat or forget to excercise, just drink a lot of water and try to be healthy for the rest of the day.  A bunch of little steps make big changes!

I stole these great photos from the amazing blog Anatomika.net. I can't read much on that site but the visuals are amazing. They have some great scans from all of the magazines. Makes for good inspiriation.

Shelter Dogs - Photo Book and Series

Posted | Views: 16,873

"Shelter Dogs" is simply a collection of close-up portraits of homeless dogs. All images were taken while the dog was in an animal shelter. Some of these dogs found good homes, others were euthanized.

"Shelter Dogs" is available at all major bookstores, online at Amazon, etc. and on the ASPCA web store. A percent of all proceeds from sales are being donated to the ASPCA, so far we have raised over $25,000.

Aww, you have to feel for these dogs. Just look at the raw emotion in the eyes of these beautiful animals.

Artist Mike Kelley Dead by Apparent Suicide

Posted | Views: 18,429

Artist Mike Kelley has passed away at his home in Los Angeles, having apparently taken his own life. The tragic news was confirmed to BLOUIN ARTINFO by Helene Winer, of New York's Metro Pictures gallery, a long-time associate of the artist.

"It is totally shocking that someone would decide to do this, someone who has success and renown and options," said Winer. "It's extremely sad." She added that the artist had been depressed.

Kelley was born in 1954 in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. He became involved in the city's music scene as a teen, and while a student at the University of Michigan, formed the influential proto-punk band Destroy All Monsters with fellow artists Jim Shaw, Niagara, and Cary Loren (a retrospective devoted to Destroy All Monsters was held at L.A.'s Prism gallery last  year). Together, the band hatched a style of performance that skirted the edge of performance art.

After graduating college in 1976, he moved to Los Angeles to attend the California Institute of the Arts, studying alongside teachers like John Baldessari and Laurie Anderson. Music continued to be a constant passion: he formed another band, "Poetics," with fellow CalArts students John Miller and Tony Oursler.

Kelley's career took off in the early 1990s, with solo shows at the Whitney, LACMA, and other international venues. He and Oursler organized a well-recived installation — a kind of monument to punk — at Documenta X in 1997. In the early 2000s, he began exhibiting with Gagosian Gallery after 20 years with Metro Pictures.

For his 2005 exhibition "Day is Done," Kelley filled Gagosian with found yearbook photos, video footage, and automated furniture, prompting New York Magazine critic Jerry Saltz to describe the show as an example of "clusterfuck aesthetics." More conventionally, he was associated with the notion of "abject art," highlighting the irrational and the repulsive.

Kelley's studio released a statement to the L.A. Times saying, "Mike was an irresistible force in contemporary art... We cannot believe he is gone. But we know his legacy will continue to touch and challenge anyone who crosses its path. We will miss him. We will keep him with us."

"Mike Kelley was as kind and generous a collaborator as I could possibly hope for," said curator Dan Nadel, who organized Prism's retrospective for "Destroy All Monsters." "I'm extremely grateful to have worked with him, and will be forever grateful to him for his patience and the education he gave me, perhaps without even realizing it. And, besides his remarkable genius, I'll always remember his rolling, infectious laughter, which was a pleasure to behold."

Sense of Style

Sense of Style

You remember when you were younger and you just got up, your parents
dressed you, or they just put out the clothes that you could wear for the day?
Please don’t act like your parents never dressed you because I can count the
number of girls that came to school with the different colored barrettes in
their hair and wore the dresses that looked like they were going to a wedding.
The guys who always had to wear their shirts inside their pants, and their pants
being pulled halfway up to their stomach so you would see the outline of their
socks. (Michael Jackson style)

I feel after those crazy moments

that we decided to create our own sense of style. We get to high school and
people's values to stand out and be different, or look a like, changed. They
started reading fashion blogs, make up blogs, and going to fashion websites just
to get started on what they wanted to wear. If you look at Lil Wayne or Kanye
West, you can see their sense of style has changed dramatically. They want to
stand out and be different but at the same time, they want people to take notice
and follow the trend.
Once we hit college that is really the chance some
of us get to reinvent ourselves and create this sense of style that we always
wanted. Some people will get rid of their high school style and create their
college style. You are surrounded by new people, new environment so why not
create something new? At each stage of our life, I feel that the sense of style
we have is constantly changed by something we see, and how mature we become.
Instead of wearing a white tee and sneakers everywhere, we changed to a button
up, tie, and some nice shoes. If your sense of style has really changed, you won’t
conform or thirst on what everyone is doing; you will create your own thing and
wing it from there.
Remember, your sense of style is something you create
from your creative mind. If someone says they don’t like it, respect their
opinion and tell them to fall in a hole. You are the artist and whatever you
create is what YOU create; the more they judge, the more they want to be like
you.

Chanel 2012 Spring Make Up Collection

This blush is AMAZING. It's seriously SO pigmented. I'm wearing it right now, and I've already gotten mulitple compliments on it.  No one has ever complimented me for a blush! The only problem with this is the price.  Yes, it's $58. But honestly, I would buy this again in a heartbeat. That says a lot.

If you guys don't already know, I'm a complete nail polish JUNKIE. I can't remember the last time I went to Ulta and didn't buy a nail polish.  I know, crazy. When I came upon these three Spring colors at Niemans for the first time, my heart started racing with excitement.  Theres a really pretty light red, a beautiful orange, and a girly pink that everyone could wear.  I have not gotten my hands on these, but I heard the Chanel counter calling my name after school today!

This eyeshadow quad is just so cute! I think it's perfect for the transition from winter to spring, and then really good for the springtime! The colors are so pigmented and natural. The only thing I don't care for are the little sponge applicators, but who uses those anyways?

GOOGLE KICKS THE HORNETS NEST
WITH NEW PRIVACY POLICY

FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Google's roll-out of a new privacy policy effective March 1, 2012, combined with the launch of the Google Search Plus Your World program (which merges Google+ with Google Search results) earlier this month, has created a torrent of criticism across the globe.  Here are the essential facts:.

(1) Google Is Creating an Omnibus Privacy Policy for the Googleverse

Currently, Google has approximately 80 privacy policies covering its many websites and offerings.  For example, the following Google products/services each have their own privacy policy:

+1 Button, Advertising, Advisor, Apps, Blogger, Books, Buzz, Chrome, Chrome Frame, Gears, Google+, Google Music, Google Notebook, Google TV, Google Web Toolkit, Groups, Health Knol Location Service in Firefox, Mobile, Moderator, Orkut, Picasa, Postini, Safe Browsing, Sites, Store, Toolbar, Trader, Translator Toolkit, Voice, Wallet, Web Accelerator, Web History, YouTube

The new policy creates one omnibus policy govering all such applications, simplifying the process and creating greater transparency.

(2)  Users Already Consent to Sharing (Much of) this Data (sort of)

As Google explains :

The main change is for users with Google Accounts. Our new Privacy Policy makes clear that, if you’re signed in, we may combine information you’ve provided from one service with information from other services. In short, we’ll treat you as a single user across all our products, which will mean a simpler, more intuitive Google experience.

Since as early as 2005, Google has disclosed that

[w]e may combine the information you submit under your account with information from other Google services or third parties in order to provide you with a better experience and to improve the quality of our services.

(although it is unclear whether this is true for all Google services).  Nonetheless, this may explain why one lawyer noted that that "[w]hat we have is not a reaction to a change in legal language, but it's a change in perception."  As Forbes' Kashmir Hill wrote in her Not So Private Parts blog:

What’s changing is not Google’s privacy policies but its practices. By combining information from across all of its services, Google will be able to better target users with ads, offer more innovative features, and, importantly for Google, better compete with Facebook.

(3)  Users Can Opt-Out (sort-of)

Users who do not consent to the Privacy Policy changes can quit their services and extract their data entirely - or alternatively the user can refrain from using Google services requiring a log-in after March 1st.  Google's public policy blog post explains:

  • You still have choice and control. You don’t need to log in to use many of our services, including Search, Maps and YouTube. If you are logged in, you can still edit or turn off your Search history, switch Gmail chat to “off the record,” control the way Google tailors ads to your interests, use Incognito mode on Chrome, or use any of the other privacy tools we offer. . . .
  • You can use as much or as little of Google as you want. For example, you can have a Google Account and choose to use Gmail, but not use Google+. Or you could keep your data separate with different accounts -- for example, one for YouTube and another for Gmail.

(4)  Not Applicable to Enterprise/Government Clients

These changes to not apply to Google's largre customers whose privacy rights are defined by contract.

(5)  Google is Facing a Political Backlash as a Result:

The move has triggered demands that Google brief Congress on the changes and calls for the FTC to assess whether Google has violated its 2011 consent decree.  In addition, the Deputy European Union Data Commissioner has indicated that the EU would be looking into the changes once implemented.

It may also be facing a PR backlash as anti-Google graffiti was spotted in New York.

Verizon Sues Parked.com As Serial Cyber-Squatter

Verizon is seeking $66M in damages from Parked.com and registrar DirectNic for using over 660 domain names with names confusingly similar to Verizon, including typo variations such as 1verizon.net, myverixon.com and myaccountatverizonwireless.com.   Verizon's case, however, faces certain jurisdictional hurdles as both defendants are based in the Cayman Islands and DirectNic was able to dismiss an earlier Verizon lawsuit on jurisdictional grounds in 2011.

January Favorites!

Three words.  Revlon Lip Butters.

Not only do these lipsticks give you beautiful, long-lasting color on your lips, but they are extremely moisturizing.

A shimmery neutral nail? Heck yes.  Butter London's All Hail the Queen and Sephora by OPI's Already Famous are my two nail polish picks for this month.  Not only do they go well with most skin tones, but they're shimmery and natural looking.  What's better than that?

To be shiny, or not to be shiny.  That's the question right there.  Personally, shine on my face drives me up the wall.  I am anti-oil.  Yucky. But it's all okay because of this product right here.  Urban Decay's De Slick Oil Control Make Up Setting Spray rocks my socks off.  Yes I did just say that.  My make up stays on all day long.  This is an absolute must have if you don't want to look like you ran through a steam room by the end of the day or night.  It also comes in a dry-skin version and a normal version. Right on!

As you will soon discover, I have many January favorites, but oh well, you beauty-obsessed chicas out there know how this is.

Has your hair ever looked like it's been electrified? I know mine has! Actually, my hair used to resemble that of Hagrid from Harry Potter.  It's a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product is the most amazing thing thats ever happened to my hair. The things it does:

1. Repairs dry, damaged hair

2. Adds shine

3. Detangles

4. Controls frizz

5. Seals and protects hair color

6. Prevents split ends

7. Stops hair breakage

8. Creates silkiness

9. Enhances natural body

10. Heat protectant

As you can see, this product is FREAKING AMAZING

Go.Buy.It.Now

Do you like romance and adventure? If so, then this book is for you.  I promise you that you won't put it down.  I rarely read books, but when I read this one, there was no stopping me.  You won't regret this buy!

Have you ever felt that spark? That spark between you and a certain someone? You just know that it's right, and you want to be with them forever? Well I certainly haven't felt that yet as an almost 18 year-old, BUT I have felt something similer.  I know, it was a weird comparison. Benefit's Dallas blush literally blew me away. The way it looks on pan does not give it justice.  On the skin, it transforms you into a ravishing beauty.

This watch is like Heaven.  It was so perfect for the month of January.  Sometimes it can seem a bit flashy to slug around a huge, fancy watch, but this one is just beautiful.

Bye bye dark circles! The Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Dark-Circle Roller is the bomb.  I don't know how I walked out of my house looking like I did when I did not own this.  Not only does it conceal your under eye circles, it makes your entire face look more awake due to the caffeine in it. Suffering from dark circles like I am? Go pick this up!

I just had to add a very special favorite. My besties! Kara and Barrett are definently some of my favorites for January.  Love them to death.  We had a blast in New Orleans!

Guess it's time to go to jail...you're lashes are too long! Okay that was super duper cheesy, but this mascara literally is the equivelant of lash extensions or something of the sort.  My lashes have never looked so long and voluminous in my entire life. AND it's drugstore! Everyone wins!

Acne, acne, go away, please DON'T come again another day. Haha! This stuff is a GREAT foundation, and it also helps clear acne! How conveniant! After a month of complete hell for my skin, (I've been breaking out like crazy all month long) this stuff is actually starting to stop my breakouts.  HOORAY!

Have your fingers ever bounced on a trampoline? Yeah, mine haven't either. BUT this is the closest they will ever get...AND the color is amazing. These Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes are SO fun and SO pigmented. They give a really pretty, natural glow to the face. Perfect for Spring! YAY!

That's it for my January 2012 favorites! I hope you guys enjoyed my first post on this blog/magazine type thing! I had a lot of fun putting it together! Yay for new things!
